What is Heardle Game?

Heardle is a web-based music game created by Omakase Studios, a London-based development team. The game draws inspiration from the popular word-guessing game Wordle but focuses on testing players' knowledge of music. heardle provides an engaging platform for players to guess the names of songs based on their openings.

Gameplay:

The gameplay involves listening to progressively longer snippets of a song, ranging from 1 to 16 seconds. Players attempt to guess the name of the song based on these audio snippets. The challenge lies in deciphering the song with minimal information and making accurate guesses within a limited number of attempts.

Development and Release:

Heardle's development began in December 2021, and the game was officially released on February 26, 2022. During its initial release, the game sourced songs from the music streaming service. The selection of songs was initially done "semi-randomly" after the developer found that curated songs led to a better gameplay experience than randomly selected ones.

Acquisition by Spotify:

In July 2022, Spotify, a prominent music streaming platform, acquired Heardle for an undisclosed sum. However, the game's journey took an unexpected turn when Spotify decided to shut down Heardle in April 2023. This decision was made to prioritize other means of music discovery on the platform.

Legacy and Clones:

Heardle's popularity led to the creation of clones such as Heardle Decades, which featured the same gameplay with different sets of songs from various decades, TV themes, or specific artists. Another variation, Videogame Heardle, focused on video game music.

Heardle gained recognition for combining the joy of music discovery with the challenge of guessing songs based on limited information, making it a unique and entertaining experience for music enthusiasts and casual players alike.
